Where the cliffs stop and the sea begins.
Il-Kantra sits in a fold of rock at the foot of the Ta' Ċenċ cliffs, at the end of a road that arrives almost reluctantly. An open timber structure. A dry-stone wall. A run of shaded tables — and then nothing at all between you and the channel across to Malta.
It belongs to Ta' Ċenċ Hotel and it opens when the season does. Lunch runs long here. Nobody moves you off the terrace.

02 The Table
Straightforward food, cooked over fire, eaten in the open.
The kitchen is rustic and Sicilian-leaning, with local dishes alongside. Whatever came in off the boats, a grill, good oil, a lemon. Pasta made to be eaten slowly. Salads that taste of the island.

03 The Lido
Swim first. Then lunch.
The rock shelves down into water clear enough to count the stones on the bottom. Sunbeds above it, a way in below, and the bar open behind you the whole time.
Come down in the morning, stay through the flat heat of the afternoon, and let the cliff take the sun off you at the end of it.
